Esta não é uma exposição que deva ser vista como didáctica. De igual modo, este texto não pretende ser uma descrição nem uma interpretação. Está muito longe de ser um texto de crítica ou de comentário disciplinar. Uma disciplina, tal como uma espécie animal, evolui por desterritorilização e reterritorialização. A única função produtiva que um texto de teoria de arte poderá ter, é de actuar como uma máquina de desterritorialização, usando a arte como pretexto para falar de outras coisas, estabelecendo redes de conexão com outros territórios, estendendo as áreas de influência, transgredindo sistematicamente as fronteiras com outras disciplinas, em busca de outras formas operativas com as quais actuar. Não se trata de acreditar, na eficácia de um ritual de exorcismo através da representação, mas de dar a ver de um modo mais convincente do que todas as campanhas sanitárias. Isto porque sabe-mo-lo desde sempre, as palavras e as imagens comuns, não sabem medir-se com a morte.
Os trabalhos que constituem esta exposição apontam assim, fundamentalmente, no sentido em que as mudanças que têm vindo a ser operadas no modo e na prática da fotografia, ao invés de terem vindo a diminuir ou estreitar o universo próprio do medium, muito pelo contrário, têm vindo a abrir um espaço regenerativo, através do qual os artistas vão olhando e propondo olhares reflexivos, da complexidade do que são as imagens e do modo como estas são produzidas, disseminadas e pensadas. Pretende examinar os modos como os artistas a trabalhar com a fotografia na contemporaneidade, respondem a questões relativas aos processos fotográficos e às especificidades do meio, e ainda que com recurso a outros meios, desde a sua produção e realização, até à sua recepção e ao seu consumo.
Numa época em que a cultura é consumida vorazmente por um público cada vez mais vasto do que o foi alguma vez antes, as galerias e os museus não podem ser já, meros repositórios de obras de arte. São lugares de experiência, onde a mente é muito frequentemente convocada tanto quanto o olhar. Mudanças que foram progressivamente deixando manifesto ao visitante do museu, que é a mente e o olhar do curador que dão forma ao dispositivo de montagem de uma colecção, enquanto permite uma nova liberdade para o receptor para que seleccione o seu caminho ao longo da história da arte, não sem ser recordado constantemente de que olhamos o passado, enquadrado pelo presente.
Reflexão, que assim é proposta ao receptor não no sentido, da análise dos seus valores de interpretação, mas do contrato estabelecido e necessariamente subjacente a qualquer um dos trabalhos, e das relações que se estabelecem entre eles, que informa uma efectiva experiência da obra de arte. E qual é esta experiência? Ela vai na direcção oposta à da subjectividade, mas essa orientação não implica, de forma alguma, um movimento para a objectividade. Por um lado, as coisas sentem em nosso lugar, por outro, nós somos investidos por um processo de reificação mais radical, e mais profundo do que aquele que conhecemos do passado, pois desta vez, atinge o aspecto mais imediato e mais intímo da experiência.
Quando o público solicita o pensador a desvelar o arcano do pensamento filosófico, não está realmente a pedir o conhecimento de uma subjectividade pensante, mas sim a exposição de uma coisa que sente, pois este mesmo público já se percepciona a si mesmo como um sentir reduzido a coisa.

Las fotografías presentadas por Carlos Lobo en el desarrollo de esta exposición constituyen la primera presentación pública del proyecto Far Far East, resultado de un viaje deambulatorio por el sur de China y del reconocimiento visual de su paisaje urbano y natural. Esta serie muestra una clara línea de continuidad en relación a los trabajos anteriores de Carlos Lobo: la misma mirada retraída y en suspenso, en un movimiento de pura contemplación de lo anónimo y de lo banal, la misma intención de registro de intervalos temporales sin coordenadas, espacios de ausencia, entre las historias que nos cuentan los lugares. Todo el programa estético del artista viene sostenido, por lo tanto, en la ausencia de la dimensión iconográfica de la imagen, o sea, en la disolución del vínculo que une lo visible a lo legible y conforma la visión a las lógicas y codificaciones del logos; sus fotografías no están revestidas de segundos significados ni de ellas emergen historias codificadas o construyen universos simbólicos estables. En el momento en que las vemos, solamente vemos imágenes, más allá de su legibilidad y de lo que ellas designen o nombren, más allá de las posibles representaciones que podamos proyectar de las mismas. Este trabajo se hace más exigente cuanto más iconológico es el objeto y el mayor desafío de esta serie consiste precisamente en el hecho de la importación occidental de una idea de China en cuanto realidad occidental de una idea de China, en cuanto realidad geográfica y cultural, si se estructura, por un lado, sobre un código lineal de estereotipos civilizacionales, de identidad y visuales, construidos a partir de la promoción turística producida a efectos de exportación con objetivos comerciales y económicos y, por otro lado, sobre una retórica geopolítica reciente que la presenta como potencia emergente en proceso de modernización acelerada. La exploración visual realizada en el proyecto Far Far East evita este doble obstáculo centrando su mirada en fragmentos, tópicos, de la realidad que se muestran sin mostrarlos, que aparecen sin aparecer.
En esta serie, sin embargo, vemos algo que está normalmente ausente en el objetivo de la cámara de Carlos Lobo: personas que existen también en el espacio sin habitarlo, sin embargo. Se hace curioso señalar que, aquí, nunca vemos sus rostros; sus fotografías son captadas siempre de espaldas al fotógrafo, mirando en otra dirección, centrando su atención en elementos que están fuera del alcance del artista y son, por eso, inescrutables. Esta es la forma que Carlos Lobo tiene para decirnos que el mundo no se revela ni es revelable al completo, que lo aprehendemos a partir de ángulos estrechos y que podemos simplemente participar y proyectar la presencia íntima y cómplice de una mirada que se mueve, aunque sea momentáneamente, hacia el exterior de uno mismo, en otro tiempo y en otro lugar.

The new programme continues Bloomberg SPACE's reputation of presenting the unknown alongside the very well known drawing on a group of artists from across the globe. The programme spans a wide range of media – during the year painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, performance and film are all featured.

For COMMA Dan Perjovschi has turned the front gallery at Bloomberg SPACE into a giant sketchbook, immersing viewers in a sea of information. Atypically Perjovschi has chosen to work only on the huge glass frontage of the gallery leaving the rest of the gallery as a blank page. The London headquarters of Bloomberg LP is distinctive both for its gallery's towering glass frontage and for Bloomberg's 24/7 news which is generated from within. Perjovschi has focused on both of these unique characteristics scaling up his portfolio of drawings that comment on current political, social and cultural issues and applying them on to both sides of the glass. The result is a direct interface between gallery and street that draws together viewers from both arenas.

Jack presents e The Moth House têm o prazer de anunciar o lançamento do livro de Edgar Martins “Topologies” no Museu do Oriente, Lisboa.
Com inauguração a 19 deste mês, esta exposição retrospectiva contará com mais de 35 trabalhos da ultima monografia do artista, com o mesmo nome, que foi lançada pela Aperture Books em Março 2008.
No seguimento de muito bem sucedidas apresentações em Coimbra, Rio de Janeiro e Madrid, “Topologies” estará em exposição até Abril deste ano.
No dia 23 deste mês o trabalho de Edgar Martins estará tambem em exposição no Museu Colecção Berardo [ Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisboa ] como parte da muito aguardada exposição do prémio BES Photo.
Edgar Martins é um dos três nomeados para este prestigiado prémio Iberico.
Os nomeados são André Gomes, Luis Palma e Edgar Martins e os resultados serão anunciados em Abril.
Edgar Martins foi considerado por criticos no Reino Unido como ”um dos mais inovativos jovens artistas a trabalhar com o meio da fotografia”.

A Printed Matter está situada no 195 10th Avenue (entre as 21 e 22nd Streets) em New York City.
Autor de uma critica que decorre mais da necessidade que do design, Mel Bochner começou a escrever citica de arte como modo de poder pagar a renda.
Mais tarde em 1966 Bochner teve uma revelação acerca das possiveis reverberações da escrita de arte ao longo da linha divisória entre artistas visuais e escritores. Este momento inicia uma serie de investigações sobre o que Bochner identificou como a "grande fronteira entre escrita-enquanto-criticismo e escrita-enquanto-arte-visual". Em peças tais como "The Domain of the Great Bear", em co-autoria com Robert Smithson e "The Beach Boys-'100%'", Bochner criou trabalhos de arte camuflados de artigos de revista. Solar Systems and Rest Rooms é uma reimpressão destes trabalhos, que acompanham os primeiros textos de critica, e apresenta uma perspectiva sobre o desenvolvimento de uma pratica de escrita fundamental de artistas conceptuais. Reflexo de uma estetica da reprodução no trabalho de Bochner, muitas destas paginas do livro apresentam os trabalhos em facsimile.
Contendo mais de cinquenta peças, Solar Systems and Rest Rooms reune varios dos alvos linguisticos de Bochner, incluindo criticas, entrevistas, enunciados, anotações e reflexões, sobre artistas tais como Barnett Newman, Donald Judd e Dan Flavin. Solar Systems an Rest Rooms foi recentemente objecto de artigos de Jeffrey Weiss na Artforum e de Barry Schwabsky na Art in America.
Desde a sua exposição seminal "Working Drawings and Other Visible Things on Paper Not Necessarly Meant to Be Viwed As Art" em 1966, Bochner tem vindo a expor extensivamente em museus e galerias em todo o mundo.

A Fase Um de X irá incluir instalações de artistas de várias gerações:
No piso térreo, Mika Tajima irá criar uma instalação que será parte local de filmagem, palco, camarim e apoio doméstico. Entitulado The Extras, a instalação incluirá 35 esculturas, uma variedade de acções/performances e dois videos. No 2º, 3º e 4º pisos, X apresentará uma extensiva pesquisa sobe o trabalho de Derek Jarman, uma das figuras mais radicais do cimema independente Britanico. A exposição apresentará 18 films super-8 mm raramente vistos nos US. Na cobertura, Light Chamber (Part Two) de Christian Holstad, uma instalação modelada apartir de clubes de sexo homosexual de cabedal e spas de alto nivel, apresenta uma cama de bronzeamento a uso e com uma componente de som no limite.
Complementarmente a estas três exposições, a muito conhecida escultura para um sitio especifico untitled de Dan Flavin será reinstalada na escadaria do edifício. Criado em 1996, o trabalho é um emprestimo da Dia Art Foundation e estará montada ao longo da duração de X.

A exposição inaugural da Raven Row é a primeira grande exposição no Reino Unido das colagens e envios postais do artista de New York Ray Johnson (1927-1995). Johnson usou meios radicais para construir e distribuir imagens, inventando inadvertidamente o “movimento de arte postal”. Ele fez arte apartir da vida social – quer real quer imaginaria – reunindo celebridades, o mundo da arte e amigos no seu trabalho. A sua influencia na arte do seculo vinte excede em muito o reconhecimento que ainda hoje recebe.
‘Ray Johnson. Please Add to & Return’ é significativa no modo como reapresenta os envios postais de Johnson – objectos que ele entendia como presentes e portanto opostos ao mercado – e tambem os trabalhos de colagem feitos para exposições em galeria durante os anos sessenta e setenta. Tambem incluidas são as colagens submetidas a um processo sem fim de refabricação e sobreposições que foram encontradas assinadas com multiplas datas e organizadas meticulosamente em sua casa à data da sua morte.
Raven Row é um centro de arte contemporanea sem fins lucrativos situado no numero 56 Artillery Lane, Spitalfields, London. Construido no interior de duas casas de mercadores de seda do seculo dezoito, às quais os 6a Architects adicionaram duas galerias contemporaneas, o centro de arte situa-se numa parte da rua outrora conhecida como Raven Row, até 1895, quando terá sido absorvida Artillery Lane.

ARCO presents a space in the Fair to show the continuous expansion process of artistic practices towards new contexts and formats. Expanded Box sets its sights on the most current trends exploring the influences and/or uses of technologies in the arts. The selection will be made by a curatorial group and approved by the ARCO'09 Organising Committee in a special session held to this effect.
PERFORMING ARCO
ARCO'09 continues with this section addressed to galleries that wish to present visual artists proposing live art (performances). In addition to the galleries applications, a prestigious team of international curators will also present proposals and will supervise the programme. Artists Space will accept up to two unframed, unmatted works on paper from any individual artist.
Works must be NO LARGER than 11 x 14 inches.
Photographs and digital prints are acceptable as long as they are the original media, i.e, no digital reproductions of paintings, etc. On the back of each work, write your name, address, and email address. NO Post-It notes, please.

Simoes will also preview his forthcoming work on video “During Rewind” (with SCREEN, a screensaver designed and programmed by O-R-G.com). “During Rewind” is the moment of rewinding blank dvcam tapes (12, 22, 32, 34, 40, 64, 94, 124, 184 minutes) creating a time structure for guests in the “play” moment. Previous works include European PAL video system works played in American NTSC video system players "rendering its final form blitzed and unintelligible" (Julian Myers, Frieze magazine), phosphor burn-in images and totally misplaced video and sound works.
A self publishing book (kindly supported by Direcção-Geral das Artes, Portugal) will arrive at the gallery during the exhibition via UPS featuring texts by Paulo José Miranda and Julian Myers on Simoes' work and will be launched at the closing reception, Nov 26th. 6 - 8 pm.

If you weren't in Times Square tonight, the only place to be was downtown in the West Village at Gavin Brown's enterprise gallery for an installation by Jonathan Horowitz, Obama '08.
Hundreds of artists, including Piotr Uklanski and Elizabeth Peyton along with collector Peter Brant, model Jessica Joffe and one of the Olsen twins crammed into a room surrounded by portraits of former Presidents lined up in chronological sequence. In the middle of the room hung two screens back to back; one showed Fox; the other showed CNN. CNN viewers sat on a blue carpet; Fox viewers on a red carpet.
When Obama's victory was formally declared Horowitz mounted Obamas's portrait on the wall next to George Bush's - some ugly facts even artists cannot alter - and the red, white and blue balloons tied above both screens came down.
It was time finally to breathe - and then scream.
It was the end of a day that had begun at 5am; I had been too anxious to sleep properly; Around 10 am I went to get my hair cut - and in the salon all any one could talk about - both clients and clientele - did you vote and did you vote today the right way?
That we are, in the end, good people. And now we have a leader who believes in our potential.

Hugo Canoilas and João Ferro Martins combined their practices in the collaborative project A Kills B developed since 2007. A Kills B engage in the notion of experimentation as an element of aimlessness, uncertainty and freedom. At present A Kills B have been experimenting with the idea of the monochrome and musical sound through performances combining painting and jam sessions that end in an expanded notion of the monochrome.

Mas não é o único português a participar neste evento, também a dupla A Kills B (João Ferro Martins e Hugo Canoilas) apresentaram no início do festival uma das suas performances “Monochrome” – desta vez foram cerca de 40 m2 com bateria, baixo e guitarra que ficaram totalmente pintados de amarelo.

Gulbenkian Foundation and Maumaus are pleased to present e-flux video rental in Lisbon.
e-flux video rental (EVR) is a project by Anton Vidokle and Julieta Aranda, comprising a free video rental, a public screening room, and a film and video archive that is constantly growing. This collection of over 750 works of film and video art has been assembled in collaboration with more than 100 international artists, curators and critics.
Orignally presented at a storefront in New York, in 2004, EVR has traveled to venues in Amsterdam, Berlin, Frankfurt, Seoul, Paris, Istanbul, Canary Islands, Austin, Budapest, Boston, Antwerp, Miami and Lyon. Following its stay in Portugal, the project will travel to Brasil and Argentina. After these final venues, having outlived the technology that made it possible (VHS video tape players), the project will be permanently archived with the Arab Image Foundation in Beirut and Moderna Galerija in Ljubljana, in 2009.
Dpois de Nova Iorque, Londres, Berlim, Amesterdão, Miami e Boston, foi inaugurado em Lisboa o projecto itinerante E-Flux Video Rental. Até 31 de Julho o foyer da Sede da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian acolhe um extenso arquivo de vídeos realizados por alguns dos mais importantes artistas contemporâneos, que se encontra à disposição do público para aluguer domiciliário, gratuitamente, permitindo a todos os interessados a consulta e estudo destes registos. Paralelamente, está a decorrer um ciclo de conferências e mostra de vídeos que acompanha esta iniciativa:
Jürgen Bock, curador e director da Escola de Artes Visuais Maumaus, estará na Fundação Gulbenkian no dia 10 de Junho, às 18h, e no dia 24, à mesma hora, será Jean-François Chougnet, director do Museu Colecção Berardo, a fazer uma apresentação.
A última conferência, dia 15 de Julho, será proferida por Miguel Wandschneider, programador e curador de Artes Visuais na Culturgest.

Matt's Gallery
E3 4RR is the first ever print portfolio produced by Matt's Gallery. In a limited edition of 25, it brings together fifteen internationally acclaimed contemporary artists. It is presented in an A3 black buckram covered box with typography designed by Phil Baines. Each work is printed using archival ink and paper and interleaved in archival tissue. There are 17 proof copies for the artists, Matt's Gallery, London and Wimbledon College of Art.
E3 4RR has been put together by Robin Klassnik and employs the same philosophy as the gallery’s exhibition programme. The development of the portfolio has been an organic process with an emphasis on the dialogue between Klassnik and each of the artists when developing and selecting the work. This process has been essential in bringing together a body of work from fifteen very different artists.All prints have been specifically produced for E3 4RR and generously donated by the artists towards Matt's Gallery's ongoing fundraising initiative. The sale of the portfolio will help the gallery to continue to provide a platform for emerging and established artists to make innovative, challenging and ambitious works; commission new publications and publish a 30 year Matt's Gallery book; develop an extensive archive and enhance its role in education; and provide bursaries for internships enabling an active participation in nurturing the next generation of cultural leaders.
E3 4RR, is produced in association with BA Fine Art Print & Digital Media, Wimbledon College of Art, with paper sponsored by John Purcell Paper
and framing by ARQADIA, A Larson-Juhl company. E3 4RR was originally conceived by Melanie Jackson in partnership with Robin Klassnik and has

Em MIGUEL BONNEVILLE #6 entro numa nova etapa do meu trabalho. Um trabalho com uma filosofia mais aprofundada sobre identidade. Sobre as questões de autoria, originalidade, solidão, identificação, narcisismo, autobiografia.
As autobiografias feitas por mulheres sempre foram, ao longo da história, vistas como incompletas, descontinuas, incoerentes, fragmentadas ou privadas. Vejo assim também o meu trabalho, pois sei que uma autobiografia coerente, continua e narrativa é uma impossibilidade. Será sempre incompleta, em continua transformação e regenerando-se.
